Ryan Herberholz

TEOTWAWKI is an acronym for the end of the world as we know it and refers to a catastrophic event that will destroy current institutions and norms within society. While the various prepper and survivalist groups that commonly use this acronym skew right wing and are often characterized by a conspiratorial mistrust of government I utilize TEOTWAWKI to explore aspects of possible future scenarios that could arise from maintenance of the status quo in contemporary society. Drawing from Jem Bendell’s paper Deep Adaptation and other similar works I focus on what concerns are aroused by the notion that “Near Term Societal Collapse” may be unavoidable at this point.
