Annette DeLorean

When Aaron called me to do a solo exhibition, my first thought was YES followed by a louder NO. I wanted to do the show, but I immediately thought of ways I could hide. Like, if I just put in abstract landscapes. But I know that wouldn’t conceal anything.  All art is, in some way, about the artist. So who has to do the thing? Unfortunately it’s Me. It’s not so much a self-deprecating title as it is a call to action.

So I decided to lean into it. This feeling of showing up and being judged. Aaron listened to my thoughts and said “You’re not crazy. Having a solo exhibition is like walking naked through a crowd .” So my art is about to be butt-naked. Me, no, I’ll be somewhere in the gallery wearing a nice dress grimacing with fear and excitement. The art on the walls occupies some corner of my brain. That’s the best way I can describe it. Maybe it’s meaningful to you, maybe not. I’m happy to have you judge for yourself.

Artist reception is Saturday, August 13 from 6pm to 10pm.
