Maya Wynn Boyd
Maya Wynn Boyd is a fashion designer, illustrator and visual artist. A native Detroiter, she is a graduate of Cass Technical High School and has a Bachelor of Arts from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia. She has lived and practiced her profession in New York City, Miami, Florida, and Detroit, returning in 2018. She has created paintings and drawing for several broadsides and book covers for her mother, poet and scholar, Melba Joyce Boyd, as well as illustrating children’s books by other writers.
As a visual artist, she has always been interested in what intrigues the eye. But, she grew up many places, including Germany, which gives her a global perspective. She has designed fashions for the iconic Betsey Johnson, Baby Phat (Russell Simmons) as well as other Hip Hop brands that infiltrated the fashion industry. She has also designed accessories and jewelry for major companies, including Jacob the Jeweler. She also travelled to South Korea to produce a jewelry collection for her own brand. She also sells her fine art, especially paintings to a vast client base. Art Basel is another avenue that has exhibited and marketed her art.
In addition, she teaches for an educational program at the Center for Creative Studies. Most importantly, she has a six year old son, Maverick Gil, who she regards as her greatest creation.
