Dawnice Kerchaert

Dawnice Kerchaert achieved a BFA from the College for Creative Studies and Design, Detroit, and a BA for Art History from Eastern Michigan University. She taught American Art History and graphic design courses at Oakland Community College for 15 years. For the past twelve years nature has become the subject of her art. The imagery and tactile qualities from the natural environment were the inspiration for creating cast bronze and aluminum sculptures. In 2019 she was awarded Best of Show, In Gold We Trust, Art On 30th, San Diego, California, and 3rd Place recipient at Marshall Fredericks Sculpture Museum, Regional Biennial Juried Sculpture Exhibition, Saginaw Valley State University, Michigan. Kerchaert continues to exhibit nationally.

In her travels she collects materials and documents natural sites, such as the sacred mounds of Native Americans in Mississippi, the petroglyphs in Valley of Fire state park in Nevada, the extreme vastness and sparkle of the Great Salt Lake desert, the rich woodlands of Georgia, the beauty of northern Michigan and others all become part of the work. She intends to bring attention to our human need to experience nature on any level. Or at least introduce something of nature into someone’s life.
